The Economy

I've been hearing about government, taxes, retirement
Healthcare, interest rates, the state of the market
Tried each and every way I can think of how to spin it
So I'm just going to pretend that money wasn't mine to begin with

I'm not going to get upset, make a fuss, or protest
It's already rather remarkable that I'm even doing this
I could write a letter but I probably wouldn't finish
So I'm just going to pretend that money wasn't mine to begin with

With automatic direct deposit we don't even see it
A fairly good reason it's futile to fight it
I fundamentally feel there is no way to win this
So I'm just going to pretend that money wasn't mine to begin with

Now I've got more pressing things on my list
Like walking the dogs or washing the dishes
Or play a typical white-collar middle-class song sung in English
So I'm just going to pretend that money wasn't mine to begin with

Last, Lost, Least, and Lifted

What about the last
Shall be first
Tell me the lost
Shall be found
One day the least shall be lifted
Set up on high ground

I jumped out of bed
I must have slept late
Repairs to the tracks
And my train was delayed
I need a break
But I'll never quit trying
I'm out here in the rain
At the end of the line

So what about the last
Shall be first
Tell me the lost
Shall be found
One day the least shall be lifted
Set up on high ground

An accident ahead
Rerouted my way
Driving all alone
In an unfamiliar state
I need a break
But I'll never quit trying
I'm out here on the road
Till I recognize a sign

But what about the last
Shall be first
Tell me the lost
Shall be found
One day the least shall be lifted
Set up on high ground

The hurricane arrived...
The waters did rise
And the waters remained
Watching everything sink
And all wash away
I need a break
But I'll never quit trying
I'm stuck here on the roof
Just praying to keep dry

And oh what about the last
Shall be first
Tell me the lost
Shall be found
One day the least shall be lifted
Set up on high ground

Calling

Have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me
I am living, I am living, I am living, I am living, have you seen me
Have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, I am living
I am calling, I am calling, I am calling, I am calling, have you seen me
Have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, I am calling
I am leading, I am leading, I am leading, I am leading, have you seen me
Have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, I am leading
I am smiling, I am smiling, I am smiling, I am smiling, have you seen me
Have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, I am smiling
I am I AM, I am I AM, I am I AM, I am I AM, have you seen me
Have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, have you seen me, I am I, I AM

Singing Nearby

Hey, hey
I'm singing praises and if you're nearby
Don't hesitate to join the choir
If you're not in a praising place
Then stay right there and bathe in grace
And wait, wait
We're singing praises and if you're nearby
Don't hesitate to join our choir
If you're not in a waiting place
Then sing and dance at your own pace
And pray, pray
We're singing praises and if you're nearby
Don't hesitate to join our choir
If you're not in a praying place
Then shout and cry and interface
And say, say
I'm singing praises and if you're nearby
Don't hesitate to join the choir

Executive Decision

From my corner office high above
I see police are blocking off the streets
And while they move like worker bees
I train my seat towards computer screens

Should I march? Should I march?
Or is it better that I'm tethered
In support of mine own interests and I give when I can?

From the steaming pavement far below
A crowd emerges peacefully insured
With banners, flags, and drums and horns
While I return to where my words are heard

Should I march? Should I march?
Or is it better that I'm tethered
In support of mine own interests and I give when I can?

All throughout my hardly weary day
The ants I see are marching three by three
And while their numbers rise and fall
I intercede in comfort as I please

But should I march? Should I march?
Or is it better that I'm tethered
In support of mine own interests and I give when I can?

Making Contact

Such little protection
From a razor so mean
We dodge and defend
But the dagger cuts clean
Our skin is but thin
And gives way to the blade
Piercing ever deep
Till the light starts to fade

The darkness is lifted
Still the wound makes me reel
And two become one
As the hurt starts to heal
The skin closes in
It gets stronger each hour
Underneath the scab
Is a beautiful scar
